What Does the Foundation Do For Kids?
The Illinois Foundation for FCCLA supports leadership activities at every level of the Illinois Association for FCCLA and awards scholarships. The budget is based on the needs of the Illinois Association of FCCLA. Each person pays a registration fee to attend Peer Education and Leadership Training, District Meetings, State Leadership Conference and National Leadership Meeting.. The Foundation helps to keep the registration fees at an affordable level for all students. Donations to the general funds for leadership activities are used for the following activities:
Dual Training that includes Peer Education and Leadership Training for Local, District and State officers.
FCCLA members attending this dual training will be involved in hands-on interactive activities and workshops. The opening session will include a keynote speaker. Peer Educators are trained with a presentation to give back in their communities. It also includes an activity to be conducted in the local high schools. During the training, attendees receive resources that will be useful in their presentations and as they carry out projects in their schools and communities.
Leadership Training for State, Section and Chapter Officers emphasizes leadership skills including team building, meeting planning, parliamentary procedure and the FCCLA state and national programs. State and Section Officers should all attend!
Adults participating in the Peer Education/Leadership Training may receive Certified Professional Development Unit (CPDU).
For several years the state organization has partnered with the foundation to
give local members an opportunity to participate in the foundation fund raising
process. As in the past, a
silent auction to raise money for Foundation will be held. They bring a $10.00
gift/chapter to donate to the auction. Tickets are sold for a donation of
1/$1.00 or 6/$ 5.00. It’’s a fun activity for all.
7 Fall Leadership Meetings at Various Locations Around the State.
Chapters may choose to attend any of the one day meetings. They are not restricted to attending any specific meeting. They may choose the site or date that best fits their chapter calendar. FCCLA members attending these awesome leadership meetings will be involved in hands-on interactive activities and workshops. A dynamic keynote speaker will present the keynote address. An Illinois Foundation for FCCLA Activity is included. Each meeting will conduct a Community Service Outreach Project. Adults participating in the Fall Leadership Meetings may receive Certified Professional Development Unit (CPDU). To receive this credit, advisers must attend the adviser’s session that will be held at each site.
State Officer Training
There are 7 FCCLA State Officers elected at the State FCCLA Leadership Conference. Each state officer has a local FCCLA Family and Conusmer Sciences Teacher Adviser. The state officers and their advisers receive custom designed intensive training that includes public speaking techniques, goal setting, meeting planning, workshop techniques, public relations, parlimentary procedure, leadership roles, team building and resources.
State Leadership Conference
At the annual FCCLA State Leadership Conference in April, members demonstrate skills through participation in proficiency skill events, showcasing community service projects, exploring careers, attending educational sessions and electing officers. Adults participating in the adviser sessions may receive Certified Professional Development Units (CPDU). A foundation silent auction is held each year. Last year, over 1,000 members and advisers participated in this dynamic conference.
National Leadership Meeting
More than 5,000 FCCLA members, advisers, alumni and guests from across the country gathered in Nashville, Tennessee July 9-13 for the 2006 National Leadership Meeting. A number of relevant youth issues – future careers, youth violence prevention, family relations, traffic safety, community service, and the changing roles of men and women in the home and workplace were explored at the meeting through presentations, workshops and youth sessions. The Illinois Foundation for FCCLA assumes a portion of the cost for the state officers and their advisers to attend the meeting. When enough funds are available, the foundation assumes the cost of the STAR events entry fee for each participant. Competition, evaluation and recognition all stress cooperation as the basis for success in the sixteen Students Taking Action for Recognition (STAR) events competition held at the National Leadership Meeting.
Professional Development for Prospective and New Advisers
Funds are budgeted for the Executive Director to provide training and resources for prospective and new advisers as the need arises. This is a vital component to the ongoing success of the Illinois Association of FCCLA.
