Getting Started

If you are a new advisor, it can seem to be an unbelievably huge undertaking. However, the benefits of having an affiliated chapter are amazing not only for your students, but also for you and the school. To make it a little easier, here is a list of suggestions to get you started:

·        Talk to your students and find some who are strong and seem very interested

·        Visit the State website www.ilfccla.org and the national website www.fcclainc.org.

·        Contact the State Office; Marta Lockwood, Executive Director at 217-728-2787 or ilfccla@yahoo.com.

·        Affiliate your members

·        Plan activities for your members (Community service, Power of One, etc.)

·        Register to attend local meetings (Section or Fall Leadership Meeting)

·        Register to attend State Leadership Meeting

RECRUITMENT IDEAS:

  • Bring your own banana (BYOB) sundae party

  • Presentation at Orientation night

  • Free t-shirts as an incentive to join

  • FCCLA Fun Fridays (show movies, have pizza, popcorn, etc.)

  • Bring a buddy to first chapter meeting

  • Sponsor in class activities to encourage students to join

  • Participate in Community Service activities

RETAINMENT IDEAS:

  • Have a variety of activities to participate in

  • Schedule meetings at convenient times

  • Provide hands-on activities

  • Keep peers involved in projects

  • Participate at different meetings (Fall leadership, State, Cluster, National, etc.)

  • Ask members to be involved in committees

  • Participate in national programs

  • Keep meetings fun, entertaining, and informative

  • Publicize FCCLA related scholarship that seniors can apply for
